Frances Hannon and Mark Coulier won the 2015 Achievement in Makeup and Hairstyling Oscar for their work on The Grand Budapest Hotel at the 87th Academy Awards, held Feb. 22 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.

During the acceptance speech, Hannon thanked the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, actor Bill Murray (for introducing her to the film’s director, Wes Anderson) and Anderson himself.

“Without you, Wes, we wouldn’t be here, any of us. It’s been such a pleasure working with you over all these years,” she said.

Hannon also thanked “all the amazing assistants,” including Julie Dartnell, Emma Mash and Norma Webb.

Coulier thanked Anderson, Duncan Jarman, Stephen Murphy, Dave Malinowski and Josh Weston and paid a special tribute to one of his inspirations:

“I’d like to thank the legendary make-up artist Dick Smith … who passed away last year—his innovation and his generosity has helped us all raise the bar,” he said.

This is the first Oscar win for make-up, hair and prosthetics designer Hannon; she and Coulier also won a BAFTA this year for their work on the film. Hannon’s list of credits includes Captain Phillips, World War Z, X-Men: First Class and The King’s Speech. Prosthetics make-up designer Coulier won an Oscar for his work on The Iron Lady (2012). He previously worked on Rush, Merlin and the Harry Potter series. For more on The Grand Budapest Hotel, see Issue 108 of Make-Up Artist magazine.
