On Feb. 16, the British Academy of Film and Television announced the
winners for the 2014 EE British Academy Film Awards. Evelyne Noraz,
Lori McCoy-Bell and Kathrine Gordon won in the Make-Up and Hair category
for their work on American Hustle.
“Thank you for all
the actors for sitting for days and hours, and to develop something
amazing. And let our art—hair and make-up and wardrobe … shine through,”
McCoy-Bell said during the team’s acceptance speech.
This was the first BAFTA win for all three women. Make-up department head Noraz previously won an Emmy Award for her work on Boardwalk Empire (2011). Hair designer Gordon previously won an Emmy Award for her work on Introducing Dorothy Dandridge (2000); hair department head McCoy-Bell, who has worked as actor
Bradley Cooper’s personal hairstylist, won a Make-up Artists & Hair
Stylists Guild Award (Charlie’s Angels) in 2001.

London-based make-up artist Angela Holthuis and photographer Izabela Habur set a challenge for themselves: Habur
asked Holthuis, a fashion pro, to create “a small story with bold looks
within a small time frame, to test out how far we [could] push
ourselves creatively,” Holthuis said.
Make-Up Artist magazine is now accepting student competition
applications for the 2009 Los Angeles International Make-Up Artist
Trade Show. The themes for this year are Gothic and X-Men Mutants. The competition is open to students of a recognized make-up school and
to those who graduated 12 months prior to the competition. Make-Up Artist will only accept competition entries postmarked by May 22, 2009.
