Artists Set Records at 2013 World Bodypainting Festival

Amazing presentations are nothing new at the World Bodypainting
Festival. The 2013 event, held July 1-7 in Pörtschach, Austria, had all
the artistry and theatricality audiences expect, plus two artists
setting festival records for the most wins.
artist Mateo Arfanotti won in two categories (Brush/Sponge and
Facepainting), a first for the festival, and American artist Scott Fray
was the first competitor in WBF history to win in three major
categories. This year he won in the World Award: Airbrush category; in
past years he won in the World Award: Brush/Sponge and World Award:
Special Effects Bodypainting categories.
This was the 16th year
for the World Bodypainting Festival, held on the banks of Lake
Wörthersee. Teams of artists from 45 nations participated, including
first-time delegations from India, Kazakhstan and the Philippines.
Thousands of visitors and participants enjoyed the unique blend of art,
music and fashion. Sponsors included Kryolan Professional Make-up,
Snazaroo, Body FX, Make Up For Ever, Temptu Pro, M.A.C. Pro, Adobe and
others. The festival included the World Fluoro Award, a nighttime
contest for UV make-up effects; 46 different workshops, demos and
lectures; a large exhibition area and market; Bodypaint City TV; Body
Circus—The Surreal Ballroom and the Body Art Fashion Show.
festival culminated with the awards presentations. The 2013 themes were
“Planet Food” and “Holy Geometry.” Below are the top three winners in

London-based make-up artist Angela Holthuis and photographer Izabela Habur set a challenge for themselves: Habur
asked Holthuis, a fashion pro, to create “a small story with bold looks
within a small time frame, to test out how far we [could] push
ourselves creatively,” Holthuis said.
Make-Up Artist magazine is now accepting student competition
applications for the 2009 Los Angeles International Make-Up Artist
Trade Show. The themes for this year are Gothic and X-Men Mutants. The competition is open to students of a recognized make-up school and
to those who graduated 12 months prior to the competition. Make-Up Artist will only accept competition entries postmarked by May 22, 2009.
