Baker Awarded Star, Guinness Records at Hollywood Ceremony

Approximately 200 people turned out to cheer on Rick Baker Nov. 30 as he was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Actor Andy Garcia, directors Barry Sonnenfeld and Guillermo del Toro, visual effects wizard Dennis Muren and make-up legends Dick Smith and Bob Burns looked on as Baker helped unveil the Walk’s 2485th star at 6764 Hollywood—directly in front of the entrance to The Guinness World Record Museum. Baker was also honored for two achievements that landed him in the Guinness Book of World Records: Guinness’ Head of U.S. Records Management, Mike Janela, presented the make-up artist with two certificates designating him for Most Academy Award Wins and Most Academy Award Nominations in make-up.

U.K. team collaborates for a different 'Alice in Wonderland' - Tuesday August 04, 2009

On a cold and cloudy Oxford afternoon, U.K. make-up artist Sarah Terry collaborated with photographer Rebecca Parkes, hairstylist Sean Butt and designer Bibian Blue to create this dark vision of Alice in Wonderland. The Victorian and Edwardian eras inspired Terry to contrast creams and gold hues with vibrant reds and smoky blacks. Appliqués, feathers, nail art and Butts’ elaborate hair design gave the looks texture. This particular Alice (Samantha Wilkinson) and White Rabbit (Blossom Blois) look innocent, but there’s a hint of mischief here, too. Let’s follow them down the path, shall we?
