On Nov. 14 the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce announced that
seven-time Oscar-winning make-up artist Rick Baker will receive a star
on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Nov. 30, 2012 at 11:30 a.m. The
ceremony will take place in front of The Guinness World Records Museum
(6764 Hollywood Boulevard).
During the ceremony, Baker will also
be entered into The Guinness World Records book twice: for the most
Oscar wins and for the most Oscar nominations for Best Achievement in
Makeup. He has received twelve Oscar nominations and won seven times:
An American Werewolf in London (1982),
Harry and the Hendersons (1988),
Ed Wood (1995),
The Nutty Professor (1997),
Men in Black (1998),
How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2001) and
The Wolfman (2011).
"We
are proud to honor those who have successfully helped make Hollywood
what it is today with their talent and magical creations that fans have
enjoyed since the beginning of the motion picture industry. Rick Baker
is a revered artist who we are proud to say started his extraordinary
career in California, home of the movies," said Ana Martinez, producer
of the Walk of Fame ceremonies, in a press release.
As we reported in
Issue 97 of
Make-Up Artist magazine, Baker and his fellow star honorees were chosen from among
hundreds of nominations at a meeting held on June 15, 2012, and ratified
by the Hollywood Chamber’s Board of Directors.
In that article,
Baker said, "I was totally shocked to find out that I was getting a
star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame." Baker said his wife, Silvia, had
been working for years to get him a star and finally succeeded, with
help from industry friends.
"I was 13 when I first went to
Hollywood to the Max Factor building to buy my first professional
make-up. I looked for the longest time at those stars, trying to find a
make-up artist and couldn't, because at that time there weren't any. Now
there are a few, and I can’t believe that I am going to be one of
them."
Director Barry Sonnenfeld will be the guest speaker for the Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony; he worked with Baker on all three
Men in Black films. The event will be streamed live on
walkoffame.com.
