Wedding season may be over, but Manhattan was brimming with silk
chiffon and Chantilly lace for New York Bridal Fashion Week, held Oct.
12-15. Designers showcased their upcoming collections at studios and
hotels across New York City, highlighting such trends as illusion
necklines, long lace sleeves (à la Kate Middleton) and intricate
beading.
Make-up at Marchesa, Monique Lhuillier and Reem Acra
was simplistic and ultra-feminine, with nude eyes and subtle lips.
However, not all designers took the traditional route. Designers Claire
Pettibone, Amsale and Anne Bowen used bold lip colors and dramatic eye
shadows to create a dynamic contrast between the edgy make-up and
pristine gowns. Below is a summary of the Anne Bowen show, featuring key
make-up artist Dani Fonseca for Mehron.
Anne Bowen
Time/Date: 3 p.m. Oct. 12, 2012 Place: Flatiron Hotel Key Make-up Artist: Dani Fonseca Make-up: Mehron
Inspiration: The Anne Bowen bride: edgy and non-traditional
Details: There was no clichéd, natural bridal make-up to be seen at Bowen’s
Fall/Winter 2013 runway show. "Anne caters to women who are more
fashion-forward," Fonseca said. "Not the bride that does a traditional
ceremony." To achieve an edgy-yet-sophisticated look, Fonseca created a
dramatic eye by sweeping iNtense Pro Pressed Powder Pigment in Carbon
across the lid and extending it out past the temple. Celebré Precious
Gem Powder in Opal was dusted across the lid for a shimmery, smoky eye.
E.Y.E Lashes in Fuller were applied and then lined with Paradise Makeup
AQ Detailz in Black. Celebré Pro HD Make-Up was used to perfect
complexions and Cheek Cream in Shell Pink was used to create a natural
glow. With focus on the eyes, eyebrows were veiled with foundation while
lips were kept simple and matte with L.I.P Color Cream in Cotton Candy.
Insight: Bowen wanted a look as non-traditional as her
collection, which contained everything from silk-organza cocktail
dresses to avant-garde gowns. "She wanted [the make-up] to look
editorial," Fonseca said.

| U.K. team collaborates for a different 'Alice in Wonderland' - Tuesday August 04, 2009 |
| On a cold and cloudy Oxford afternoon, U.K. make-up artist Sarah Terry collaborated with photographer Rebecca Parkes, hairstylist Sean Butt and designer Bibian Blue to create this dark vision of Alice in Wonderland.
The Victorian and Edwardian eras inspired Terry to contrast creams and
gold hues with vibrant reds and smoky blacks. Appliqués, feathers, nail
art and Butts’ elaborate hair design gave the looks texture. This
particular Alice (Samantha Wilkinson) and White Rabbit (Blossom Blois)
look innocent, but there’s a hint of mischief here, too. Let’s follow
them down the path, shall we? |
