Oscar Watch 2012: Top Three Make-up-Award Contenders Announced

The nominees for the 84th Academy Awards have been announced by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Here are the nominees for the Achievement in Makeup Oscar:

Albert Nobbs: Martial Corneville, Lynn Johnson, Matthew W. Mungle

Special make-up effects designer Matthew Mungle previously won an Academy Award for Dracula; this is the first nomination for make-up department head Lynn Johnson and hairstylist Martial Corneville. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II: Nick Dudman, Amanda Knight, Lisa Tomblin

Creature effects/make-up effects designer Nick Dudman, make-up department head Amanda Knight and hair designer Lisa Tomblin, along with their teams, created unforgettable looks for the eighth and final film in the Harry Potter series. This is the first Oscar nomination for all three; between them, they have 14 BAFTA nominations. The Iron Lady: Mark Coulier, J. Roy Helland

This is the first Oscar nomination for Mark Coulier and J. Roy Helland, recognized for transforming actress Meryl Streep into former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. Coulier won Emmy Awards for Arabian Nights and the 1998 Merlin, and Helland won an Emmy Award for Angels in America. See Issue 94 of Make-Up Artist magazine for more details on The Iron Lady.

Details on the pre-Oscar make-up symposium are coming soon. The 84th Academy Awards presentation will be Feb. 26 at 7 p.m. EST / 4 p.m. PST on ABC.

Make-Up Artist will only accept competition entries postmarked by May 22, 2009.

Estée Lauder Sacks Prescriptives - Wednesday September 23, 2009

If you like Prescriptives products, you’d better stock up while you can: On Sept. 17, Estée Lauder Companies announced it will stop production and global wholesale distribution of the brand by Jan. 31, 2010. The brand will still be sold online at www.prescriptives.com while inventory lasts.

U.K. team collaborates for a different 'Alice in Wonderland' - Tuesday August 04, 2009

On a cold and cloudy Oxford afternoon, U.K. make-up artist Sarah Terry collaborated with photographer Rebecca Parkes, hairstylist Sean Butt and designer Bibian Blue to create this dark vision of Alice in Wonderland. The Victorian and Edwardian eras inspired Terry to contrast creams and gold hues with vibrant reds and smoky blacks. Appliqués, feathers, nail art and Butts’ elaborate hair design gave the looks texture. This particular Alice (Samantha Wilkinson) and White Rabbit (Blossom Blois) look innocent, but there’s a hint of mischief here, too. Let’s follow them down the path, shall we?

Make-Up Artist Magazine Features Michael Jackson Retrospective - Monday July 06, 2009

Following the recent death of Michael Jackson, Make-Up Artist magazine’s next issue (#79) will feature a retrospective of the King of Pop, featuring interviews with a number of make-up artists who worked with Jackson over the past three decades, as well as some exclusive, never-before-published photos.
