The United Kingdom-based cosmetics company Illamasqua has announced that
it is launching a make-up competition called the Distinction in Make-up
Artistry Awards 2011. The competition will be open to professional
students and recent graduates who have registered to be an Illamasqua
Professional member at www.illamasqua.com/professional before March 31.
Application forms will be available online
beginning April 1. Entrants in four categories (based on education
level) will be required to create two make-up looks of their choosing:
one beauty and one fantasy.
From these submissions, a panel of
judges including Illamasqua cofounder Alex Box and artist/school founder
Christine Blundell will choose 16 finalists who will be asked to
participate in a live competition at Illamasqua’s flagship store in
London Oct. 15-16. Artists will have to work with an as-yet unannounced
theme and will be marked on technical skill, professionalism and
hygiene. Final looks will then be judged on technical and creative
skill.
The public will vote on finished looks, which will be
posted on Illamasqua.com. Winners will be announced Nov. 1. In December,
winners from each category will have their creations posted on Dazed
Digital, the online home for Dazed
& Confused magazine. Prizes also include a private shopping
spree at the Illamasqua flagship store, up to £5,000 in prize money and
the opportunity either to assist Box or intern with Blundell.

| U.K. team collaborates for a different 'Alice in Wonderland' - Tuesday August 04, 2009 |
| On a cold and cloudy Oxford afternoon, U.K. make-up artist Sarah Terry collaborated with photographer Rebecca Parkes, hairstylist Sean Butt and designer Bibian Blue to create this dark vision of Alice in Wonderland.
The Victorian and Edwardian eras inspired Terry to contrast creams and
gold hues with vibrant reds and smoky blacks. Appliqués, feathers, nail
art and Butts’ elaborate hair design gave the looks texture. This
particular Alice (Samantha Wilkinson) and White Rabbit (Blossom Blois)
look innocent, but there’s a hint of mischief here, too. Let’s follow
them down the path, shall we? |
