François Nars, the founder and creative director of NARS Cosmetics,
celebrates the company’s 15th anniversary with a very exclusive new
release: 15x15, a book of 15 celebrity portraits, will be released in mid-November and available for just 30 days at www.15x15project.com. Nars
made up and photographed his subjects, among them Marc Jacobs, Isabella
Rossellini, Amber Valletta, Naomi Campbell and Jennifer Jason Leigh.
Each shot was inspired by an iconic image or person, plus a classic
NARS product. (To see the concept in action, look for Jacobs in NARS’
bright-red Dovima nail polish, which references the ‘60s supermodel for
which the product was named.) Proceeds from the book,
published by Chandelier Creative, benefit a charity of each celebrity’s
choosing. Just 1,500 copies of the $80 book were produced and each are
hand-numbered, Nars told Women’s Wear Daily. Any copies that don’t sell on www.15x15project.com become available through www.narscosmetics.com. Along
with the book, Nars told the magazine he planned to celebrate the
cosmetic company’s anniversary with a party at Barney’s Dec. 10,
another new make-up book in the works and a new store opening in New
York City in 2010.

| U.K. team collaborates for a different 'Alice in Wonderland' - Tuesday 04 August, 2009 |
| On a cold and cloudy Oxford afternoon, U.K. make-up artist Sarah Terry collaborated with photographer Rebecca Parkes, hairstylist Sean Butt and designer Bibian Blue to create this dark vision of Alice in Wonderland.
The Victorian and Edwardian eras inspired Terry to contrast creams and
gold hues with vibrant reds and smoky blacks. Appliqués, feathers, nail
art and Butts’ elaborate hair design gave the looks texture. This
particular Alice (Samantha Wilkinson) and White Rabbit (Blossom Blois)
look innocent, but there’s a hint of mischief here, too. Let’s follow
them down the path, shall we? |
