“The Law. Without the Order,” is the tagline of the Fox comedy Brooklyn Nine-Nine, now in its second season.
Melissa Fumero stars as Detective Amy Santiago, a young cop eager to impress her superiors. Her look was created by make-up department head Helen Marray-Finlay.
“When Melissa and I first started discussing her character, Amy, we felt we wanted to develop a look that was both pretty but also very real,” explains Marray-Finlay. “Amy is the type of person who has considered carefully every aspect of her look, as she wants to project herself as this strong, ambitious and very capable detective to her colleagues.” Smooth skin and slightly smoky eyes seem to do the trick. Read on for Marray-Finlay’s tips.

Editor's note: This breakdown originally appeared in Issue 111 of Make-Up Artist magazine.

Skincare
Kate Somerville Oil Free Moisturizer and La Prairie Extrait of Skin Caviar Firming Complex
Foundation
Giorgio Armani Lasting Silk UV Foundation in 6.5
Concealer
Clé de Peau Beauté Concealer in Ocher and Honey
Powder
Visiora PC Compact Powder in PC003. (It’s hard to get, so Lancôme Translucence Mattifying Silky Pressed Powder in 200 Buff is great and I use it now in Season Two.)
Blush
Stila Convertible Color in Fuchsia
Eye Shadow
From the Chantecaille Shadow and the Rose palette I used a mix of Lilac Rose and Bourbon Rose on the lid (it’s discontinued, so I now use Clé de Peau Beauté Eye Color Quad palette in La Boheme color 211), along with a mix of Paula Dorf Eye Color Glimmer in Fudge and Bobbi Brown Eye Shadow in Black Plum lightly in the crease.
Eye Liner
On the top lash line I used Dior Diorshow Waterproof Liner in Plum and Chanel Le Crayon Yeux Precision Eye Definer in Brun-Cuivré and M.A.C. Technakohl Liner in Photogravure (the M.A.C. pencil was placed finely, as close to the lash line as possible) with Bobbie Brown Black Plum Eye Shadow on top to intensify the liner and to give a slightly smoky look. On the bottom I used the Chanel pencil (finely, close to the lash line and smudged out slightly) with Paula Dorf Fudge Eye Glimmer in Fudge lightly smudged on top for a slightly smoky and softer-looking liner.
Brows
Chanel Crayon Sourcils Sculpting Eyebrow Pencil in Brun Naturel
Mascara
Trish McEvoy Lash Curling Mascara in Jet Black on the top and High Volume Mascara in Jet Black on the bottom
Lips
Chanel Le Crayon Lèvres Precision Lip Definer in Rubellite and Dior Addict Extreme Lipstick in Plaza
