In the Wachowski film Jupiter Ascending (released Feb. 6), actress Mila Kunis plays Jupiter Jones, a janitor who finds herself inhabiting other worlds.

“Jupiter Ascending was a great movie to do with Mila,” says her personal make-up artist, Tracey Levy. “She essentially plays a normal young woman thrown into fantastical worlds and situations. Her make-ups range from normal everyday [this look] to normal girl in a sci-fi world.

“When Jupiter enters into the worlds outside of Earth, everything changes. … Her make-up, hair and wardrobe take her out of her old reality. In the other worlds there are color and style changes made to her make-up that change with her costumes.”

Read on to see how Levy created Kunis’ terrestrial look.

Editor's note: This breakdown originally appeared in Issue 113 of Make-Up Artist magazine.

Skincare
“Skincare started with Dr. Hauschka Rose Day Cream Light applied to clean skin,” says Levy. “I placed Skyn Iceland Hydro Cool Firming Eye Gels under her eyes because I always start with her eye make-up first.”
Foundation
Primer: [After eye make-up has been applied] “Now it is time to remove the eye pads and apply [the same AmorePacific] eye cream under her eyes and Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer to the rest of her face,” says Levy. Foundation: Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra 24H in 350 Bisque C. “I apply this with a foundation brush and buff it out with my Beautyblender,” says Levy.
Concealer
Bobbi Brown Corrector in Light to Medium Peach under eyes, and highlighted with Giorgio Armani Master Corrector in Orange in the inner corners
Powder
Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder #2 under the eyes (stopping short of the bottom lashes) and Sensai Loose Powder (Translucent) on the rest of the face
Bronzer
Chanel Soliel Tan de Chanel is applied to the outer parts of her face with a brush and blended into her foundation,” says Levy.
Blush
Chanel Les Beiges N°30 mixed with M.A.C. Sheertone Blush in Pinch O’Peach (discontinued)
Eye Shadow
“Eye shadow starts with AmorePacific Time Response Eye Renewal Creme,” says Levy. “Then a light layer of foundation [Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra 24H in 350 Bisque C] blended with a Beautyblender. I then set the make-up with a light wash of the peach shade from Chanel’s Radiant Gems quad [discontinued], then I lightly blend M.A.C. Eye Shadow in Cork into her crease.” After the face make-up is complete, Cork is applied lightly under the bottom lashes.
Eye Liner
A very thin line of Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner in Black Ink on top
Brows
Filled in with M.A.C. Eye Brows in Lingering
Mascara
“One coat of Lancôme Hypnôse Drama in Excessive Black is next,” says Levy. A second coat of mascara is added after the face make-up is complete.
False Lashes
“Then I apply Ardell Duralash Flare Individuals in Short Black and Medium Black,” says Levy.
Lips
La Mer The Lip Balm; M.A.C. Lip Pencil in Spice, applied all over; Dior Dior Addict Lipstick in 414 Casual Gold (discontinued). “Then we are done! Voila!” says Levy.
Highlights / Countour
Top of cheekbone with a discontinued Chanel illuminating shimmer powder. Chanel Camélia de Plumes Highlighting Powder could be used as an alternative, Levy says. For contour,| M.A.C. Sculpting Powder Pro Palette| in Bone Beige under the cheekbones.
