The new film The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones is a story of transition and self-discovery for its central character, Clary Fray (played by Lily Collins). Fray evolves from a college student into a warrior over the course of the film. To accentuate Collins’ features and make her believable as a warrior without overdoing it, make-up department head Jo-Ann MacNeil chose to lighten Collins’ complexion and make her eyes pop with copper hues.
Editor's note: This breakdown originally appeared in Issue 103 of Make-Up Artist magazine.
"The prosthetic transfer on her hand is a rune called Time Stands Still, which was pre-painted with Skin Illustrator [FX Palette] in Black and Blood Tone,” said MacNeil.

Thank you SO much for this breakdown! I absolutely adored Clary's whole look in the movie. Can there be any detail given on the application of the eye shadow ie; the pink color went in the crease etc? Also, Clary wore a particularly beautiful color of nail polish throughout the film. Would you be able to identify the brand and name?
