For the Nov. 19, 2011 episode of Saturday Night Live, celebrity make-up artist Lisa Aharon made-up Florence Welch of Florence + the Machine, whom she helps to beautify on a regular basis. “The changes were quick and, as you can imagine, backstage was hectic,” she says of working with Welch on this episode of SNL. “It didn't leave much time for touch-ups. My biggest challenge was keeping her lips on and her complexion matte for camera without losing the realness of her naturally beautiful skin.”
Skincare
Bioderma Sensibio H20, Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentrè (“I like to use a wet sponge from Alcone for a light application”), RéVive Les Yeux Pressé (“Patted around the eye for instant smoothing and brightening”), Boiron Homéoplasmine (“I love the texture of this as a lip balm. It’s not too greasy or shiny under the lipstick.”)
Foundation
“[I used] Laura Mercier Foundation Primer all over the face (also applied with a wet sponge), [then I used] Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation in Ivory, applied with the Chanel Pinceau Fond de Teint Foundation Brush, blended down from the forehead to the center of the face and outward.”
Concealer
Chanel Correcteur Perfection Long Lasting Concealer in Beige Clair, patted on from inner corner of the eye to the high point of the cheekbone and around the nose. I also used Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage in SC-2 for spots on the face.”
Powder
Laura Mercier Loose Setting Powder, dusted only on the T-zone to keep the highlights from going flat.”
Blush
“To put just a hint of pink color onto the cheek I used Nars Cosmetics Cream Blush in Penny Lane, applied with sponge on the apples of the cheek. M.A.C. Powder Blush in Emote (shade no longer available) was used for contouring the cheek with Laura Mercier Angled Cheek Contour Brush.”
Eye Shadow
“To create a slight contour I started by shading M.A.C. Eye Shadow in Omega in the crease and outer corner. Then I patted Chanel Ombre Essentielle Soft Touch Eyeshadow in Blazing Gold on the center of the lid and blended it inward. I used Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Loose Colour Concentrates wet in Flawed with the Make Up For Ever Eyeliner Brush 1N in the inner corner for a little extra pop of metallic. To deepen the eye contour and shadow slightly under the eye, I finished with Giorgio Armani Maestro Eye Shadow in 33.”
Eye Liner
“I pressed Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner in Espresso Ink tight into the lash line.”
Brows
“To lightly fill the brow where needed, I sketched Chanel Crayon Sourcils Sculpting Eyebrow Pencil in Blond Clair and held [the brows] in place with M.A.C. Brow Set in Clear.”
Mascara
“I curled Florence’s lashes with the Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler and applied a coat of Chanel Inimitable Mascara in Noir Black to both the top and bottom lashes.”
Lips
Chanel Rouge Allure in Fatale (this product is no longer available, but Chanel Rouge Allure Extrait de Gloss in Fatale could be comparable for color). “This became our favorite color! I used it on her performance on 'VH1 Divas' as well.”
Highlights / Countour
“With the Laura Mercier Camouflage Powder Brush I applied the Madina Chic & Shine Stick in Gold to the highs of the cheekbones and under the brow. (This brush is meant for powder but is synthetic and perfect to use with the cream stick.)”
Additional Information
Body Make-up: Paris Berlin Le Fluide in LFC 50 and LFC 20, mixed. “This waterproof formula is matte and light textured. It’s great for not getting on expensive clothing and lasting through multiple changes.”
