For the film Immortals, Nikoletta Skarlatos had to transform Bombay-born actress Freida Pinto into the mythological oracle Phaedra. Although the studio had pushed for a more traditional Rajasthani, kohl-lined eye look, Skarlatos and director Tarsem Singh agreed on a bolder fusion of Greek mythology and contemporary fashion. “The idea was to do something organic, with a hint of something ancient, but also a bit of runway or high fashion. She’s an iconic character in the film; an oracle with a mysterious power. Freida and I had this discussion about, ‘Let’s try to create something that hasn’t been done, that is not of a period but is a new creation,’ so that’s what we did.”

This breakdown was originally published in   Issue 93  of Make-Up Artist magazine.

Skincare
The artist used a customized, proprietary blend of organic skincare products along with a light spray of either Evian Mineral Water Spray or Vichy Laboratories Thermal Spa Water.
Foundation
Armani Luminous Silk Foundation in varying mixtures of Tawny 6.5, Tan 7 and Caramel 8
Concealer
VIP Maquillage Paris Fard Creme in Orange
Powder
Chanel Poudre Universelle Libre in Naturel 30 and Julie Hewett Los Angeles Ora Mineral Mix Loose Foundation in Translucent Oat for finishing highlighted areas.
Bronzer
Chanel Soleil Tan de Chanel to shade cheekbones
Blush
Julie Hewett Los Angeles Cheekie Lip and Cheek Shine in Destiny Cheekie Pot
Eye Shadow
Nars Cosmetics Duo Cream Eyeshadow in Camargue; the brown shade was placed all over the upper lid while the chartreuse shade was used very sparingly just under the brow. Nars Cosmetics Night Series Eyeshadow in Night Clubbing was used on the crease and lid. Julie Hewett Los Angeles Cheekie Lip and Cheek Shine in Destiny Cheekie Pot was used over the finished eye to blend and soften the look. Using her finger or a blending brush, Skarlatos blended the cream product up and across to the mid-lid. The technique “ties the entire look together and gives the eye and face life,” she said.
Eye Liner
Nars Cosmetics Night Series Eyeshadow in Night Clubbing along with Dior 1 Couleur Powder Mono Eyeshadow in 186 Ultra Violet, applied with an angle brush. Guerlain Terracotta Kohl in Brun Cendré on the waterline.
Brows
Chanel Perfect Brows in 20 Brun; the middle and darkest colors were applied with an angle brush very lightly for a natural articulation.
Mascara
After curling lashes, three types of mascara were used. First, Chanel Sculpting Mascara Extreme Length - Fine Lashes in Black, second, Julie Hewett Los Angeles Rose Scented Mascara in Noir (Black) and third, Chanel Inimitable Intense in Purple.
Lips
Elizabeth Arden Advanced Lip Fix Cream and Julie Hewett Los Angeles Camellia Balm. Occasionally Guerlain Terracotta Lip Gloss in 03 was used, sparingly, and blotted with M.A.C. Blot Film.
Additional Information
M.A.C. Face and Body Foundation in C7 blended with a mix of Armani Luminous Silk Foundation in Tan 7 and Caramel 8 set with Chanel Poudre Universelle Libre in Naturel 30 or Doré 40 depending on her skin tone. A light application of M.A.C. Fix + followed by another slight powdering finished the look. Skarlatos also noted that she only uses Ve Neill’s line of brushes. “My brushes were all stolen years ago, and I discovered Ve's brushes; they are truly the best for a make-up artist,” she said.
