Judy Chin knows her way around Sex and the City—she’s done leading lady Sarah Jessica Parker’s make-up since the fourth season of the HBO TV series. So she was happy to sign on for Sex and the City: The Movie. The movie picks up where the series left off, as Carrie (Parker) and her pals Miranda (Cynthia Nixon), Samantha (Kim Cattrall) and Charlotte (Kristin Davis) prepare for a wedding and face big changes in their lives. Chin also saw some changes over time, as the popular show made its transition to the big screen. “We had some amazing new additions to the make-up department, like Nuria Sitja for Kristin Davis,” she said, “but we did miss having Nicki Lederman with us. She was busy giving birth to her son, Jameson.” Still, “It was really wonderful to be reunited with our old hair and make-up gang. We really are like a gang. There were 10 of us! On the show, when we used to do last looks before the cameras rolled, the crew would part to let us through, and we'd hear comments like, ‘Make way for the Legion of Groom!’” The film presented its share of challenges, including fighting through crowds of fans and paparazzi to get to the set. And, she said, “The hours were pretty horrendous … on the show, we often found ourselves doing serious make-up touch-ups at 3 a.m. for close-ups.” Nonetheless, she enjoyed her work with this cast and crew. “The girls always looked great,” she said. “I guess they came to expect that from us, ‘cause we were doing it again on the movie. It was really fun to work together again.”
