For the film Immortals, Nikoletta Skarlatos had to transform Bombay-born actress Freida Pinto into the mythological oracle Phaedra. Although the studio had pushed for a more traditional Rajasthani, kohl-lined eye look, Skarlatos and director Tarsem Singh agreed on a bolder fusion of Greek mythology and contemporary fashion. “The idea was to do something organic, with a hint of something ancient, but also a bit of runway or high fashion. She’s an iconic character in the film; an oracle with a mysterious power. Freida and I had this discussion about, ‘Let’s try to create something that hasn’t been done, that is not of a period but is a new creation,’ so that’s what we did.”
