Make-up artist Rosalina Da Silva was tasked with bringing the inhabitants of a computerized world to life in Tron: Legacy. Director Joseph Kosinski’s architecture background helped shape the film’s visuals. “He was looking for clean lines throughout, from the set to the costumes. These shapes and lines had to be gathered from the costumes and applied to the face as well,” Da Silva said.
The film stars Olivia Wilde as Quorra, one of several female characters known as Sirens. As the heroine of the story, Quorra needed to stand out visually from the others. Da Silva described the Sirens’ look as “clean, robotic, no smudging or blending,” but Quorra got a softer treatment that included smoky lines on the eyes and a bit of lifelike color on the lips. “I focused on bringing out her eyes to bring some humanity to her,” Da Silva said.
